Donald Lightner, Ph.D., of the University
of Arizona's Department of Veterinary Science,
in cooperation with the USMSFP, has recruited
several scientists to provide lectures,
labs and demonstrations for a 10-day course
to run from June 12-23, 2006, at the Tucson,
Arizona, campus.
Registration is limited to 30 participants,
and an early deposit of $100 by April 1,
2006, assures that the discounted price
of $1,200 is locked in. After that, the
cost is $1,500. If fewer than 10 participants
enroll, UA reserves the right to cancel
the course and provide refunds.
Accommodations are available at the Sheraton
Four Points for singles and doubles starting
at $69 per night. Dormitory rooms are also
available at $25 per night for a single
room, and $23 nightly, per person, per
double room.
Note to international travelers: Please
allow a minimum of 4-6 months for visa
processing.
Program Highlights
At least two lectures and two labs are
scheduled each day. Course coverage will
include discussions on WSSV, Taura Syndrome,
bacterial, viral and fungal diseases; surface,
nutritional, toxic, environmental, parasitic
and nonspecified maladies; new methods
of disease prevention and new diagnostic
procedures.
Lab and demonstrations will include fixation
procedures for routine histology, standard
histological techniques, normal histology
and post-mortem change of principal organs
and tissues, wet mount diagnostics, and
the identification of viral diseases based
on antibody-based methods, in-depth work
on bacterial isolates, and an examination
of nutritional diseases.
This course provides three credits for
VSC 565 through the school's summer program.
