Early registration ends April 1 and assures placement and course discount.

Donald Lightner, Ph.D., of the University of Arizona's Department of Veterinary Science, in cooperation with the USMSFP, has recruited several scientists to provide lectures, labs and demonstrations for a 10-day course to run from June 12-23, 2006, at the Tucson, Arizona, campus.

Registration is limited to 30 participants, and an early deposit of $100 by April 1, 2006, assures that the discounted price of $1,200 is locked in. After that, the cost is $1,500. If fewer than 10 participants enroll, UA reserves the right to cancel the course and provide refunds.

Accommodations are available at the Sheraton Four Points for singles and doubles starting at $69 per night. Dormitory rooms are also available at $25 per night for a single room, and $23 nightly, per person, per double room.

Note to international travelers: Please allow a minimum of 4-6 months for visa processing.

Program Highlights

At least two lectures and two labs are scheduled each day. Course coverage will include discussions on WSSV, Taura Syndrome, bacterial, viral and fungal diseases; surface, nutritional, toxic, environmental, parasitic and nonspecified maladies; new methods of disease prevention and new diagnostic procedures.

Lab and demonstrations will include fixation procedures for routine histology, standard histological techniques, normal histology and post-mortem change of principal organs and tissues, wet mount diagnostics, and the identification of viral diseases based on antibody-based methods, in-depth work on bacterial isolates, and an examination of nutritional diseases.

This course provides three credits for VSC 565 through the school's summer program.
